"ELONGATIONS" par Nicolas Mocan
“Elongations” et “Troubles” sont des séries de photos qu’on peut appeler “traditionnelles”, dans un sens technique contemporain, le photographe utilise des fichiers numériques sans les déformer ou les interpréter avec des logiciels de retouche.
Ces interprétations morphologiques ne sont donc aucunement dues à une interférence de l'ordinateur mais à une certaine particularité, une technique personnelle de réaliser les prises de vues.
L’"élongation" est obtenue au moment où la photo est prise. Après, le processus de tirage sels d’argent sur papier est le procédé classique.
Ces études sont des essais récents, inspirées par la peinture de Francis Bacon. Le photographe continue une démarche née il y a 20 ans, il veut aller encore plus loin, en partant du mouvement décomposé mais figé de Muybridge et en traversant la fluidité et la transparence des jeux déformants de Bacon. Le jeu est conçu aussi comme une délicate marche sur la corde raide qui sépare le figuratif de l’abstrait. Le photographe ne désirait d’aucune manière céder à la tentation de l’un ou de l’autre mais rester sur le tranchant de la lame.
Ces créations touchent à la pure interprétation formelle du réel, où sur un plan plus spéculatif : au rituel des gestes (série "Elongations”) ou à l’expressivité interprétée du visage humain (série "Troubles”).
L’image est conçue aussi pour pouvoir suggérer un mode surréel de décortication de la description poétique du sujet.
Le photographe veut souligner son approche de laisser les deux marges de l’image élargir son sens et son impact sur la rétine du spectateur.
La première direction : le caractère de la représentation reconnaissable, la deuxième : le flou de l’ambiguité du non-figuratif, se soutiennent réciproquement et construisent chacune des questions qui interpellent le visiteur et invitent son imagination dans l’exploration de sensations subliminales, dans l’expérience de l’abyssal.
Les photographies sont des tirages argentiques sur papier. La taille est de 45X55 cm, les tirages sont limités
à 20 exemplaires.

These studies take further my earliest works created about twenty years ago and inspired by the pictorial work of Francis Bacon. From the decomposed movement fixed by Muybridge through the fluid and transparent translations of Bacon this series is following in time by giving my own point of vue, between the figurative and the abstract.
It touches the pure formal interpretation of the real, or more definitely, a kind of a ritual dance of the gesture ("Elongations”) or the expression of the human face. The images can also sugerate a surreal way of decorticating the poetical description of the subject.
I would like to outline my approach in letting the both sides of the picture enlarge his meaning and his impact on the spectator’s eye.
